NHIS Premium Calculator for Employees in Korea (2026 Rates)
Employee NHIS premium estimator
Estimate only. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored. Uses the 2026 rates published by NHIS.
Formula used: health premium = monthly remuneration x 7.19%; long-term care premium = health premium x (0.9448 / 7.19); total = health + long-term care; employee and employer each pay 50%. No upper or lower remuneration limit and no NHIS rounding rule is applied, so a real bill can differ by a few won or more.
Short answer: Enter your monthly remuneration above and the calculator multiplies it by the 2026 employee health insurance rate of 7.19%, then adds long-term care insurance, which NHIS sets as the health premium times 0.9448 / 7.19 (about 13.14%). The total is split 50/50 between you and your employer. The result is an estimate, because the official pages do not publish rounding rules or remuneration limits.
What the calculator does
For employees at an insured workplace, NHIS’s English contribution page gives the formula “Monthly Contribution = Monthly Average Wage X Contribution Rate (7.19%)” and states the 2026 rate as 7.19%. The same page lists company employees as paying 50% each with the employer. Private school teachers and government employees follow different splits, so this tool is meant for ordinary company employees.
Long-term care insurance is collected with the same bill. An NHIS notice gives the formula as health premium x long-term care rate (0.9448%) / health insurance rate (7.19%). The Ministry of Health and Welfare states the same rate as 0.9448% of income and 13.14% of the health premium, decided on 4 November 2025.

All figures were read on the NHIS pages on 3 November 2026. The NHIS notice page carries a posting date of 26 December 2025, and none of the pages checked states an exact effective date for the 2026 rates beyond calling them the 2026 rates.
How to read the result
The tool shows three lines: the health premium, the long-term care premium and the total, each split into an employee half and an employer half. When a number is odd, the halves are rounded so that they add back to the total. Your payslip may differ for these reasons:
- NHIS may round or truncate amounts in a way its English pages do not describe.
- NHIS may apply an upper or lower limit to monthly remuneration. This guide did not find these limits on the pages checked, so the calculator does not apply them. Very low or very high pay could therefore be off.
- “Monthly remuneration” for NHIS is an official figure reported by your employer, which may not equal your take-home pay or your headline salary. Ask your employer which figure was reported.
- Annual settlement of premiums, unpaid leave, reductions and other adjustments are not modelled.

What this tool does not cover
It is for employee subscribers only. Regional (non-employee) subscribers pay by a points system, and foreign residents can face a minimum linked to the national average, which is a different calculation. Dependents, reductions for certain visa holders, and the separate employment, pension or industrial accident insurances are also outside this tool. Pension and employment insurance rates are not published on the NHIS pages used here, so This guide does not quote them.
Quick checklist
- Is your remuneration the figure your employer reports to NHIS?
- Are you a company employee, so the 50/50 split applies?
- Did you compare the estimate with your payslip, and ask HR about any difference?
- Do you know that limits and rounding may change the final amount?
This is a general estimate, not insurance advice or a bill. Confirm your premium with NHIS (call center 1577-1000) or your employer.
